Download the Trezor Suite app or use the web version to control firmware installation, wallet creation, and device verification.
Trezor devices ship without firmware. Suite will verify the device and install the official firmware — do not skip this step.
Write down your recovery words on the card provided. Keep them offline, private, and stored in multiple secure locations if possible.
Set a device PIN to protect against physical access. Familiarize yourself with the Suite interface and the ‘send/receive’ flow before moving funds.
Step 1 — Verify packaging, then connect
Before you power on the device, inspect the packaging for signs of tampering. Use the original USB cable, plug your Trezor into a computer you trust, and open your browser to the official URL. Never follow links from random emails or third‑party websites.
Step 2 — Use Trezor Suite and install firmware
Trezor Suite will guide you through verifying the device and installing the latest firmware. The app checks signatures and ensures the firmware you install is authentic. Installing firmware is usually the first step after connecting the device.
Step 3 — Create a new wallet and backup
Choose ‘Create new wallet’ if you are setting up for the first time. You will be shown a series of recovery words (commonly called a recovery seed). Write them down exactly in the order presented. Do not store the seed on an internet‑connected device or photograph it.
Step 4 — PIN, test & familiarize
Set a PIN when prompted. The PIN adds a layer of physical security. After setup, test with a small transaction or a view‑only import to ensure everything works as expected before moving large amounts.
